(David D Emmons, President)
History of Emmons Service, Inc.
Emmons Service was started in 1918 by William Patton Emmons. At that time, residential rubbish was hauled by horse drawn wagons.
After his death, the business was purchased from his estate by William's son, Robert Hague Emmons. In the early 1940's, the horse drawn wagons were replaced by motorized trucks.
In 1981, Robert sold the family business to his son, David Del Emmons who, in 1985, implemented the residential "CURBY" cart service which has proven to be very successful.
By spring of 1988, it was clear to David that recycling was sure to become a major aspect of the hauling industry. He started a compost drop-off site for leaves, grass clippings and other yard waste.
By the end of 1990, large receptacles for corrugated, newsprint, glass, metal and plastics were made available to EMMONS SERVICE customers but are now available to the general public.
During the same year, the residential recycling pick up program was implemented and recycling bins were distributed to interested customers throughout the county. Shortly thereafter, a state-of-the-art recycling truck was purchased to enhance the pick-up program. The participation in these two recycling programs is increasing every day.
From horse drawn wagons of 1918 to today's recycling endeavors, EMMONS SERVICE has displayed the dedication of serving Jackson County and is looking forward to the challenges of tomorrow!
